• If bilateral segments are received in the same container, note whether there is a suture or clip to distinguish left vs. right.
• Measure (length and diameter) and briefly describe each segment.
• Does each appear to be a complete segment of tube with a lumen?
• Note the presence of paratubal cysts (measure and describe).
• Serially cross-section the entire specimen at 3 mm intervals.

• Submit three cross-sections per tube, reserving the remaining tissue.  In the event that the initial sections do not show a completely transected tube, the reserved tissue can be submitted.  The tissue from left and right segments should be submitted in separate cassettes.
• Request that tissue be embedded and cut on end.

Received without fixative/in formalin, labeled _____ and “_____”, is a pink-tan cylindrical segment of fallopian tube/possible blood vessel, __ cm in length x __ cm in diameter.  A pin-point lumen is identified on cross sections. A __ x __ x __ cm translucent cyst filled with clear fluid is attached to the external surface.  Two cross sections are submitted in cassette #__ .
